For twelve seasons (1998 to 2011), he played at the defense position in the National Hockey League with the Nashville Predators, Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars. Born in Riga, Latvia, he entered hockey with his hometown team the Pardaugava in 1992 and was selected by Nashville as their 8th choice (230th overall pick) during the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. In 832 regular season games, he compiled 32 goals with 104 assists. Skrastins perished in a plane crash in Russia which also claimed the lives of other former NHL players.
