Mr. John Maruska
Mr. John Maruska, a former resident of Fort Atkinson passed away Monday, April 22, 1929 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. following an illness of a months duration, after undergoing an operation. Mr. Maruska was born in Winneshiek County, near Spilleville, Iowa, March 20, 1886, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Maruska residents of Fort Atkinson. When a small boy with his parents they moved on a farm near Lourdes, where he lived a number of years assisting his father with practical farming. In the year 1919 he joined partnership with Mr. Kelly and they conducted a general merchandise store for eight years. When they dissolved partnership in 1927 Mr. Maruska became manager of the National Cash Store at Waukon, at which place he was employed when compelled to give up his work on account of poor health.
He is survived by his father, Frank Maruska, five brothers, Frank Maruska of Cresco, Will Maruska of Lourdes, Ia., Joseph Maruska, Geo. Maruska, and Edw. Maruska of Detroit, Mich., and three sisters Anna, the wife of John Smith of Fort Atkinson, Margaret, the wife of George Bodi of Detroit, Mich., and Mary, the wife of Thomas Dargon of Cresco, Ia.
The remains of Mr. Maruska were removed from the hospital and brought to the home of his sister, Mr. and Mrs. John Smith at Fort Atkinson, accompanied by his father, brothers and sisters, from whence the funeral was held last Thursday morning, April 23, 1929, at 9:30 o'clock to St. John's church, where a Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul was celebrated by Rev. Father Charles Dragoun, assisted by Rev. Father H.A. Henrichs, and the remains were laid to rest in St. John's cemetery beside his mother, who preceded him in death several years ago.
His six cousins officiated as pall bearers: Wm. Rausch, Leo Rausch, Hugo Rausch, Julius Rausch, Edw. Rausch and Otto Rausch. His father, brothers and sisters and their families and the following relatives and friends from a distance who attend the funeral were Mr. Well, Miss Ruth Geano and Miss Meita Meyer of Waukon, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rausch of Waucoma, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kuennen of Festina, Miss Regina Maruska R.N. of St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester Minn., and Miss Margaret Meyer of Faribault, Minn.

Ed Maruska and sister, Mrs. George Bodie, left for their home in Detroit, Mich., Thursday evening. Joe Maruska left Saturday noon for Detroit and enroute visited his niece, Miss Mildred Maruska, R.N., returned to Rochester Sunday to resume her work. She was accompanied by her uncle, Joe Maruska of Detroit who went to Minneapolis to attend business matters enroute to his home. Clarence Maruska of Cresco autoed with them to Rochester.
