Altha Jane Hill Guffey was the wife of Samuel Columbus Guffey. Her father was John W. Hill and mother was Missouri Drusilla Ridge Hill.

Altha Jane and Samuel C. Guffey were married on July 22, 1899 in Mount Pleasant, Titus Co., Texas. The marriage ceremony was performed by E. H. Smith.

Altha married secondly James Henry Hunt in Lufkin, Angelina County, Texas on September 14, 1943. Elder J. C. Dias officiating.

Altha Jane remarried after Samuel's death to James Henry Hunt September 14, 1943 in Lufkin, Angelina County, Texas. At the time of her death she was living at 2003 Spence Street in Lufkin. She died of a cerebral vascular accident. She was buried March 8, 1970. The informant was her daughter, Linnie Cates.

She was a widow at the time of her death, and lived in Angelina County most of her life. Her daughters are listed on the funeral certificate: Mrs. Linnie Cates from Lufkin; Mrs. Gracie Guffey from Grant, Alabama; and Mrs. George Brewer from Antlers, Oklahoma. She had twelve grandchildren and a number a great grandchildren. She was a member of the Clawson Assembly of God Church where her funeral services were held at 2:30 PM on Sunday. The minister performing the service was Rev. L. E. Ivey. Pall bearers were: B. H. Bennet, S. T. Odom, W. J. Walker, Otto Edwards, T. S. Farris, and Gordon Matthews.

"Mrs. Altha Jane Hunt
Services for Mrs. Altha Jane Hunt, 86, of 20003 Spence St., Lufkin, are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Clawson Assembly of God Church, Bro. L. E. Ivey and Bro. Kenneth Nichols will officiate with burial to follow in Aldredge Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Gipson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hunt died in a local hospital early Friday morning after a brief illness. She was born in Cass County, July 14, 1883 and had retired in Angelina County for most of her life. She was a member of the Clawson Assembly of God Church.

Survivors: two daughters, Mrs. Linnie Cates, of Lufkin and Mrs. Gracie Guffery [sic; Guffey], of Grant, Ala.; sister, Mrs. George Brewer, of Antlers, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
