Emmett J. Slingsby, 73, of Ottawa, road commissioner in Wallace Township for 28 years, died Sunday afternoon in Pleasant View Luther Home in Ottawa. Funeral services will be Tuesday in St. Patrick's Church with burial in St. Columba cemetery. Mr. Slingsby was born June 28, 1904 in Wallace Twp, to William and Elizabeth (Delehanty) Slingsby. He married Marguerite Twohey on April 14, 1936 in Ottawa. He was a grain farmer in Wallace Twp. He was president of the Wallce Fire District, auditor of Wallace Twp, and a former school trustee. He was a member of St. Patrick's Chruch and its Holy Name Society, the Elks, Knights of Columbus and the farm bureau. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Emmett of Springfield and William J. of Bloomington; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Karen) Armodia of Downers Grove; three grandchildren; two brothers, William T. of Wallace Twp and Frank of Ottawa; and one sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Mary) Manning of Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Pallbearers will be James E. Killelea, Joseph Cantlin, Robert Nevin, Pat Slingsby, Jack Slingsby and Burrel Draper.
