Anderson Hatfield "Anse" Lowe was the son of Fountain Bird, Sr., and Judy Staton Lowe. His siblings were James Pryor, Avery "Bud," John Henry, Nancy, Piety, Rebecca Jane, George Washington, Charles Brown "Charlie," Lawyer, William "Bill,' Arminda Elizabeth "Min," Prillaman "Prill," Fountain Bird, Jr., Callahan, Mary Ann, Baby Larkin, and another stillborn baby.
Anse lost his left hand and his right thumb when it was caught in a molasses mill when he was a child. The mill caught his left arm and in trying to free it, he lost his right thumb. No one now knows if he were feeding cane through the mill or if he stumbled and fell into it.
Anse married Ruth Scott Lowe, the sister of Angeline, his brother Charlie Brown Lowe's second wife. Their children were Roosevelt, Andy F., James Louis, Bailey, Finnis, William, and Ireland.
He never let his handicap stop him. He was a beloved uncle and loved to visit his relatives. Especially he loved to be at Big Branch for the church service and reunion the Sunday after the second Saturday of August each year. The reunion is still going on, and Uncle Anse is still missed.
