A search of the federal census shows that Susanna is listed in the 1860 census (born about 1831 in Scotland) but not in the 1870 census - and John is listed as a widow. I have no idea why she is not buried here or perhaps she is but it is not recorded.
The 1860 Federal Census finds John living in Hampton Falls, working as a farm laborer with his wife Susanna and children (1) Alexander M age 7 (2) John age 5 (3) James C age 4.
The 1870 Federal Census finds John living in Hampton Falls, listed as a widow, working as a farm laborer with children (1) Jane age 20 working in a shoe factory (2) John H Junior age 15 working in a shoe factory.
The 1880 Federal Census finds John living in Hampton Falls, his first name is given as Hans and he is working as a farmer with just 1 child John who is a shoemaker. Also here is John Jr's wife Emma, born 1860 in New Hampshire (as both of her parents were) and their daughter Jane aged 1 - who I believe in later census is listed as Lillian.
