Good Citizen Gone
Died, at his home in Hartsburg, December 9, at 3:15 a.m., James Reece, aged 81 years and 3 months. The deceased was born in Union County, Pennsylvania, September 10, 1820, and was married to Miss Nancy Anthony August 17, 1843. To this union were born ten children, seven sons and three daughters. One daughter died in infancy and one son died last winter at the age of 45 years. Mr. Reece was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at the age of 15, which relation he held until the day of his death. In August he was taken ill with stomach and heart trouble. Three weeks ago a carbunkle formed on the back of his neck, which caused his death. He was janitor of the Methodist Episcopal church the past five years. His sufferings were great and he was unconcious the last four days, but the end came as a quiet sleep. At his bedside were his wife and five children-Edward, Elmer, Thomas, Tillie and Mary from Kansas. His languishing head is at rest; its thinking and aching is over. This quiet, immovable breat is heaved by affliction no more. Funeral Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Episcopal church, Rev. W.M. Gooding of Hopedale officiating. Interment in Bethel cemetery.

Death of an Old Settler

James Reece, one of the old settlers of Logan County, answered the final summons of his Creator Monday morning, December 9, and passed away in death at 3 o'clock at his home in Hartsburg. Years ago, when a young man, he came west to grow up with the country and make his fortune. For a long time he had been a respected citizen of this locality. He was a farmer by occupation, but in recent years had lived in Hartsburg in retirement. The end was due to old age. Mr. Reece is survived by a wife and eight children.
