Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary for Charles G. Blakely Jr., 74, who died Wednesday in a Houston, Texas hospital where he was admitted Sept. 13 for heart surgery performed Sept. 18.
Mr. Blakely was chairman of the board of West General Insurance Co., Blakely General Agency Inc., and C.G. Blakely & Co., all of Topeka.
The family home is 5902 S.E. 2nd.
One of the founders and past presidents of both the Kansas Assn. of Independent Insurance Agents and of Topeka Insurors, he had been active in the insurance business in Topeka and the state since 1919.
He was born July 26, 1895, in Topeka, and was graduated from Topeka High School in 1913. He attended Northwestern University and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.
He served with the 35th Division in France during World War I. He was a past member of the Topeka Chamber of Commerce, a life member of Elks Lodge No. 204, a member of Capital Post No. 1 of the American Legion, Orient Lodge No. 51, AF&AM, and Sons of the American Revolution, and a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. LaVerne Blakely, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Voight, 219 Broadmoor; two sons, Charles G. Blakely III, 130 Woodlawn, and Victor D. Blakely, 6737 S.W. Aylesbury, and eight grandchildren.
Cremation will follow the services.
Mr. Blakely will lie in state at the mortuary from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and until 10 a.m. Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Assn.
