Ruth Roed, age 82, from Fosston, MN passed away on Monday, September 5th at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (September 10th) at the New Journey Church in Fosston with Pastor Skip Hansen officiating. Interment will be in Asphult Cemetery, rural Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (September 9th) at Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston, and for one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.

Ruth was born April 2, 1929 in a small farm house in Leon Township, rural Clearbrook MN to parents Anton and Tilda (Nelson) Lindom, where she joined two older sisters Avis and Alice. At the age of a few months, due to her mother's failing health, Ruth went to live with Gustav and Marie (Malla), and two older brothers Melvin and Carl Munter in Hill River Township. Ruth helped out on the farm and attended Oakland school, rural Fosston, MN. She grew up in the Christian faith and was a member of the former Asphult Lutheran Church, rural Fosston, where she taught Sunday school and served on various committees until its closing in 1969. Ruth and Lloyd also attended Salem Lutheran in McIntosh and Vernes Lutheran, northeast of McIntosh for a time. During the 1980's Ruth and Lloyd became faithful attendees at the Fosston Baptist Church.

Ruth was united in marriage to Lloyd Roed on April 8th, 1947 in Lengby, MN. Lloyd and Ruth first lived in Brandsvold Township on a farm they purchased from Ruben and Ruth Tweeten. In 1956 they purchased what was called the Nystrom farm in Hill River Township, where they raised small grains, hogs and four children. Lloyd passed away May 26th, 2001.

Ruth had an amazing gift of hospitality and enjoyed hosting friends and family. Those meals included homemade buns, vegetables canned from her garden, homemade jellies and jams, and depending on the time of the year would include lutefisk and lefse. Ruth had a wonderful curiosity for learning new things. She learned to restore and reupholster furniture, she also learned the art of making ceramics, she built birdhouses, and she remodeled the house herself when she couldn't convince Lloyd it was necessary.

Ruth made three trips to Norway. She loved hosting Norwegian families on the farm when Brekke Travel from Grand Forks would bring out a whole bus load. She not only gave them a tour of the farm, she would also feed them an old-fashioned farm lunch; which she did with great delight.

After her kids were older she worked at the Fosston Potato Plant, at Oklee Quilting, and at the Johnson Nursing Home in Fosston where she did cooking, activities, and she earned her TMA certification.
