IRVIN L. MARONEY • SAN ANTONIO — Irvin L. "The Bear" Maroney, 70, of San Antonio and formerly of Bloomington died Friday, April 1, 1994. He was born Nov. 4, 1923, in Houston to the late Ernest Allen and Anettie Moos Maroney. He was a World War II US Navy veteran, having served in the South Pacific and North Atlantic. He was employed by the Department of Public Safety in 1947 as highway patrolman and retired in 1963 as Captain of the Narcotics Division. Mr. Maroney was a member of Val Verde Masonic Lodge No. 646, AF & AM, Scottish Rite and Alzafar Shrine and was a charter member of Texas Narcotic Officers Association, Texas Police Association and Sheriff's Association. Survivors: wife, Marilyn Maroney; daughter, Diana Padgett of San Antonio; sons, Mike Maroney of San Antonio and Pat Maroney of Austin; sisters, Bernice Kubecka of La Grange and Mice Taylor of New Braunfels; brothers, K.J. Maroney of Lafayette, Louisiana, Richard Maroney of Dallas and Jim Maroney of San Antonio; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Services: 1 p.m. today, Christ Lutheran Church in San Antonio. Burial: Sunset Memorial Park, Sunset Funeral Home, San Antonio, (210) 828-2811. Honorary Pallbearers: DPS Narcotic Officers. Memorials: Christ Lutheran Church in San Antonio or donor's choice.
