He was born on Sept. 6, 1920 in Grant Township, Mecosta County, to Burt and Ada (Moore) Boyd. He attended Pogy Elementary School and Hersey High School and was a 1936 graduate from Big Rapids High School. He married Isabelle Dietderich on Feb. 21, 1942. She preceded him in death in 1988.
Mr. Boyd's public activities included Grant Township supervisor, Mecosta County Board of Commissioners, Mecosta County Parks Commission, Evart Public Schools Board of Education, Mecosta County 4-H Projects Leader, Mecosta County Farm Bureau Board, Michigan Milk Producers in Evart, Michigan Holstein Association in district seven and Mecosta County Soil District organizer and first director. Mr. Boyd received the 1975 Outstanding Conservation Farmer of the Year, was Mecosta County Road Commissioner and was involved in the transition of Big Rapids Hospital to Mecosta County General Hospital.
Mr. Boyd worked as a dairy farmer on his farm in Grant Center and was a past member of Grant Center United Methodist Church. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, fishing, hunting, reading, gardening and planting trees.
In addition to his wife, Isabelle, he was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Catherine; and brother, Bruce Boyd.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Corey Funeral Home in Evart, with Rev. Ryan Beilfuss of First Baptist Church in Evart officiating. Burial will be in Grant Center Cemetery in Mecosta County.
