On March 14, 1863, Mary was united in marriage William Gardner at Linden, Iowa Co., Wis., in a ceremony witnessed by Mary J. Gardner and Hannah A. Gardner. At the time of their marriage he was a resident of Linden and she a resident of Vinegar Hills, Illinois. William was born March 6, 1839 in Mosley, Durham Co., England, son of Thomas Gardner and Mary Mahan, both natives of that country. He died Feb. 1, 1915 in Highland Twp., Post Office, Edmund, Iowa Co., Wis., aged 75 years, 10 months and 26 days, and was buried there in Mount Hope Cemetery. Of their nine children the following are known: William M., d. at age 19; Mable, d. at age 28; Julia, b. 18 Dec 1870; Edith E., b. 18 Feb 1873; Mary A., b. 28 Feb 1874; & H.J., b. 14 May 1878.
