Ronnie Leo "Flash" Hess SWORDS CREEK,. Va. Mr. Ronnie Leo "Flash" Hess, age 53, of the
Miller Creek section, passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, in a Lebanon, Va., hospital. Born
Dec. 25, 1956, in Richlands, Va., he was a son of Rev. Holland Hess and Rev. Ettie Ray Hess
of Swords Creek. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner with 25 years of
service. He was of the Christian faith. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents,
Bud and Alafair Hess; his maternal grandparents, Corbet and Gussie Ray; and one nephew,
Gary Wayne Dye. In addition to his parents, survivors include his loving wife of 34 years,
Hazel Lorin "Sue" Hess of the home; two daughters, Audrey Lynn Rife and husband, Randall of the home
and Cindy Kay Ball and husband, Chadrick of Honaker; one granddaughter, Sierra Santana Kay Rife; one
grandson, Christian Dale Ball; two sisters, Mary Dye and husband, Rev. Larry Dye, and Nancy Dye and
husband, Rev. Chester Dye, all of Swords Creek; twin brother, Donnie Lee Hess and wife, Cathy of Cedar
Bluff; brother, Roger Hess of New Jersey; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to
extend a special thank you to all his friends, family, area churches, and Russell County Medical Center 3rd
Floor nursing staff. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home
Chapel, Honaker, Va., with Rev. David Perkins, Rev. Dallas Hubbard, and Rev. Larry Dye officiating.
Interment will follow in the Joshua Hess Cemetery at Swords Creek. Pallbearers will be Randall Rife, Chadrick Ball,
Randy Miller, Bobby Miller, Doug Dye, Frank Dye, Ronnie Dye, Michael Whited, James Keen, Raymond
Rasnake, and Stanley Dye. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. Friends may call at the Honaker
Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7 p.m. both
evenings.
