Enoch Wallace Lamphere was born May 30, 1860, at Vola, Lake county, Illinois, where he developed into sturdy boyhood and when he was 13 years old, in the year 1872, he came to Kansas and located in Osborne county, near Alton. Then four years later he came to Kirwin, and later he located in Agra, where he was united in marriage to Delia Hawkins on Oct. 1, 1888. To this union were born four children, three sons and one daughter; two of the sons have preceded the father in death. After a five year residence in Agra, they moved to Kensington where they resided for a period of fifteen years, then they moved to Phillipsburg which has since been their home.
..He was a veterinarian by profession and had engaged in the treatment of the diseases of domestic animals since his early childhood. He had been in a state of declining health for the past two years, during which time he received medical and hospital treatment and constant ministry by his beloved wife, with the hope of restoring him to normal health, but all efforts failed and he closed an earthly pilgrimage of 78 years, 8 months and 22 days, at about the noon hour of February 22, 1938, at his home in the east section of Phillipsburg. [For the years, months and days lived to be correct, he would have to be born in 1859 like his marker says.]
..Those who survive to mourn his going are, the wife Mrs. Delia Lamphere, who has been his constant companion and helper for near fifty years; one son, Seth, of Phillipsburg: one daughter, Clara Parkyn, of Ray Arizona; two grandchildren; one brother, Perry, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one sister, Rhoda McGinnis, of Miami, Arizona; a number of other relatives and friends. Thus we conclude the brief history of another pioneer who spent more than 65 years in this section of Kansas.
..Funeral services were held at the O. E. Miles Funeral Home, Phillipsburg, Friday afternoon, February 25, at 2 o'clock, with F. M. McDonald in charge. Interment was made in the Olive Branch cemetery, Kensington.
