Vincent William Allaben [1900-1940]

Vincent William Allaben was superintendent of the school in Morrison, Il. He later taught psychology in a Chicago, Il. high school where he was paid in script at the height of the Great Depression. Only his thesis remained to receive his Ph. D. in psychology as his life was cut short by leukemia. He married Francine Szumlanska in 1923 in Iowa, where they had one daughter, Jacqueline Clara Allaben.

Jacqueline married Wesley Paul Bois in 1944. They had three children.
According to the signature on his own photo, I am recording his name as Vincent William Allaben. I believe the family always referred to him as Vincent.

Hi,

I saw your submissions on Ancestry.com, when I looked up the name of Vincent Allaben.

Last summer I purchased an old scrapbook at an estate sale. It was entitled "My High Schood Days", and was owned by a Hazel Knutsen, Class of 1926, Hanlontown, Iowa. She attended "Consolidated School". I enjoy doing genealogy, and I hated to see this item for sale, as it contained a lot of information. I have yet to find a descendent of its owner, so I am trying to send bits and pieces of information to the people she wrote about or mentioned in her scrapbook. Hazel kept wonderful notes and several pictures.

One page in her scrapbook was dedicated to the faculty of her school. I have attached a picture of her English teacher, Vincent Allaben. He signed his name on her picture as "V. W. Allaben." I am assuming that this is the same man that each of you submitted in your genealogy, as he was from Goodell, Iowa.

Anyway, I hope this will be a contribution to your mementos!

His gravestone reads William Vincent AllabenAccording to the cemetery register, he was initially buried in Section ELX, Lot 1418 of Forest Home Cemetery but was moved to Goodell, Iowa in 1955. This writer is investigating further to clarify where the stone pictured in this memorial is located. His entry in the cemetery register can be found on pages 424 and 425 of this document: http://www.wwjohnston.net/famhist/newberry-films/ForestHome/LHRef%201215-Reel%204/ForestHome-5-1932-1945-raw150.pdf
