~ Four months after Marvin married Alice, they divorced, and Marvin married Alice's mother Mattie, as soon as the divorce was final. Marvin was very "cleanliness" oriented - he won several awards from Good Housekeeping for the way he kept house, and even won a special award in 1955 from Good Housekeeping Magazine and was told that he was the only man who had entered, and that if he had been a woman, he would have won first place. The reason he and Alice divorced so soon after their marriage, was he caught her sweeping dirt under the furniture and under the carpets, because he said she was too lazy to pick it up and put it in the trash can. He could not stand dirt and disorder, and Alice did not care to even make up the bed. So, that marriage was doomed almost from the first day.
