Donald Arthur Dixon passed away at his home after a long battle with Alzheimer's and congestive heart failure.
Donald was born the 7th child of 7 children of Ralph Chester and Jennie May (Daily) Dixon, on a farm northwest of Almona, KS. Don was one of 11 children starting first grade and finishing 12th grade in the same Almona school system.
Don earned a football scholarship and attended Fort Hays Kansas State College. WWII drafted him into the Army, where he served as a sergeant with the 274th Armored Division in the Pacific.
On Sep 2, 1944 he married Ava Overholster.
Upon discharge from the service, he returned to FHKSC and graduated with a BS degree in 1949.
After teaching and coaching in Kansas and Washington state, he moved his family to China Lake, CA in 1956, but left twice before settling in Ridgecrest, CA in 1965, teaching at James Monroe Jr. High School until open heart surgery forced him to a medical discharge in 1977.
He acquired a real estate license in the early 1980s.
Don leaves his wife of 63 years, Ava, and their daughters, Donette Cappelle of Gainsville, VA, Susan Dixon of Camarillo, CA; and Linda Reyes of Bakersfield, CA; and one sister, Eileen Cramer of Almona, KS, three grandchildren — Juanathan and Trishawna Reyes and Deanna Thompson; and seven great-grandchildren.
