William Banning Dies Friday, Rites Sunday
William H. (Bill) Banning of Rural Route, Cowden, passed away Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Shelby County Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 27, 1901 in Cowden, the son of John F. and Clara Oller Banning.
In August, 1939 he was united in marriage to Hortense Huffer. One brother, Henry, has preceded him in death.
Mr. Banning served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1921 to 1924.
Surviving is his wife, Hortense; one daughter, Mrs. Sally Evans of Cowden; one son. William H. Banning Jr., of Fort Lewis, Washington; 9 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Annie Holley of Cowden and two brothers, Frank and Carl Banning of Lakewood.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Lockart & Son Funeral Home by Rev. Jerry Lewis. Mrs. Betty Lockart was soloist and Mrs. Ruth Frailer was organist. Pall bearers were Robert Banning, Leo Banning, Rodger Banning, Charles Holley, Ronald Holley and Joe Thompson. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.
