Mrs. Martin, nee Agnes Wharton Hutchinson, died less than a month before her 98th birthday. The widow of George Whitney Martin, a prominent lawyer who had predeceased her in 1959, she was also the daughter-in-law of the celebrated writer Edward S. Martin, both of whom are also interred here.
Mrs. Martin's gravestone is unusual in that it harks back to earlier eras, when epitaphs were often inspired by the personality of the deceased. Hers charmingly reads:

"RESPONSIVE TO ROMANCE,
SHE WAS A REALIST
AND IN A LONG WIDOWHOOD
A WISE GRANDMOTHER"
