US Congressman. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he attended the Franklin Institute, studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1832. He commenced to practice law in Philadelphia, served as a clerk of the court of common pleas and also served on various city commissions. In 1857, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving until 1859. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law in Philadelphia, was a trustee of Jefferson Medical College in 1862 and served as a member and president of the Board of Fairmount Park Commissioners in 1867. He was president of the Board of City Trusts, and president of the Academy of Music. He died at age 73 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
