John Hunt was involved in the lumber business and built sawmills in Louisiana. He was also a musician of sorts and could build and play the fiddle. He was a half brother to Elizabeth L. "Bettie" Gentry Stewart, the wife of James Claude Stewart, and uncle of James A. Stewart and Mary Alice Stewart Etheridge, who are also buried at Whitehouse Cemetery.
John Hunt died in Huntsville, Walker County, Texas and was buried at 1:00 PM in Whitehouse Cemetery with Rev. C. A. Lang performing the service. He died of "Flu and Pneumonia".
