From The Vienna Times
George W. Mozley, a lifelong resident of Elvira community, succumbed to a lingering illness early this (Monday) morning at his farm home, 2 ½ miles northwest of Buncombe. Friends of Mr. Mozley had noted with anxiety his marked decline for the past year and how he aged rapidly, due to a rheumatic condition in his limbs. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb 11, at Mt. Zion church, near Buncombe. We extend sympathy to the bereaved family.

Aged Resident of Elvira Township Passes Away Monday
Funeral Services Held Wednesday or George W. Mozley at Mt. Zion

After months of declining health, God saw fit to reach down early on Monday morning, Feb. 9, and relieve his suffering by taking him to his long home.

Funeral services, which considering the bad weather of the early part of the day, were largely attended by relatives and sorrowing friends. This was a token of esteem for his quiet, honorable, and upright life. The services were in charge of Elder Wiley Mathis, a close friend. The Farley Quartet sang and the body was lowered quietly to rest in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, thus closing the last chapter in the life of Mr. Mozley. Peace to his memory.

Following is the obituary read at the service:
George Washington Mozley, the son of Archibald T. and Rosa George Mozley, was born May 30, 1870, southeast of Vienna, Ill., and departed this life Feb 9, 1942, at the age of 71 years 8 months, and 9 days. He was of a large and pioneer family of Johnson County.
On Dec. 25, 1899, he was united in marriage to Arista Ragsdale and established the home where they lived for 42 years with an open door for all.

Two children were born to this union, Archa Elizabeth and Georgia Louise

In the year 1937 he was baptized in the Church of Christ by Bro. Wiley Mathis.
He leaves to mourn his departure his loving companion and two daughters, Mrs. J.O. Stanley of Pleasant Grove, and Georgia, at home; one son-in-law, J.O. Stanley; two step-grandchildren, Owen, Jr., and Betty Lee; three grandchildren, George Edward, Norma Jane, and Rosa Lou, all of whom he loved very dearly.

He was of a family of nine children, five of whom have preceded him in death, three babies dying in infancy. Attorney N.A. Mozley of Bloomfield, Mo, in 1922 and Charles F. of Buncombe in 1912. Those surviving are Dr. J.M. Mozley of Johnston City, Ill., Eugene of Buncombe, and one sister, Mary L. (Mollie) of Elgin, Ill. Besides these he leaves a host of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends to mourn his departure.

Mrs. Lizzie Simpson, Mrs. Royce Bridges, Ike Morgan, George Gray, Judge Charles J. Huffman, Attorney Ross Reynolds, and J.W. Carlton attended the funeral of George Mozley Tuesday at the Mt. Zion Baptist church.
