His first wife was Eliza McCormick, also born in Ireland. She died about 1841-1843 and her final resting place has not been found. She bore George five children. They are Margaret Jane (Brown); Elizabeth (Huey), James McAuley, Susan (Baum), and Mary whom little is known about. George married Sarah Connely in 1843.
