Squadron VA-112 CVW-11 USS Kitty Hawk. He disappeared on March 27, 1967 while on a mission northwest of Vinh. He was officially declared dead on Mary 25, 1973. His remains were recovered in 2002 and returned for burial at the Naval Academy.

Lieutenant Commander Alexander J Palenscar III was born on October 20, 1941 was an Unrestricted Line Officer (Pilot) in the U.S. Navy assigned to Attack Squadron 112 (VA-112), Carrier Air Wing 11 (CVW-11), USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63), Task Force 77 (TF-77), 7th Fleet.

On March 27, 1967 LT Alexander Palenscar launched from the USS Kitty Hawk in an A-4C Skyhawk on a mission northwest of Vinh over the Gulf of Tonkin, North Vietnam and his aircraft did not return. His body was not recovered and he was listed as Missing in Action. While in the MIA status LT Palenscar was promoted to Lieutenant Commander. On May 25, 1973 his status was changed to Killed in Action. On August 28, 1996 the body of LCDR Palenscar was recovered and returned to the United States. On November 04, 2002 his remains were identified and his body was returned for burial at the U.S. Naval Academy.
