From FAG contributor Christopher Hapgood Brooks;

The U.S. Navy's BuPers Bulletin, May 1944, reports that Lt. Comdr. Bertram J. Prueher, USN, Bloomer, Wis. (missing in action), has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. "Persistently tracking a hostile submarine while piloting a bomber in the South Atlantic, he pressed home repeated attacks which severely damaged the U-boat and ultimately forced the Nazi crew to scuttle the submarine." He was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, class of 1933.
