Son of William Eli Graves and Nancy Wyatt Graves.
He married Martha Nichols, daughter of Soloman and Rebecca Ables Nichols, on August 3, 1861 in Eagle twp. probate office. They were married by James McGee.
He had 8 children.
Eli was a Civil War Veteran with the 73rd regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted on August 30,1862. He was wounded and captured in the Battle of Bull Run Virginia. He had been shot in the thigh with a musket ball. He was released from Camp Chase by the surgeon with a certificate of disability on January 16,1863.
