U.S. Continental Congressman. He graduated from the College of William and Mary, in 1781, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Williamsburg, Virginia. He was a member of the Virginia State House of Delegates, (1778, 80-82) and Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, in 1882. In 1883, he was elected a member of the Continental Congress and served until his death at age 27. Hardy County in West Virginia, was named in his honor.
