MAYDE WADDELL BUTLER, 83, of Richmond, Texas, died Friday, September 18, 1998, at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was born October 17, 1914, in Rosenberg, Texas. She resided in Rosenberg, Texas, until 1968 when she moved to Richmond, Texas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rosenberg, Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, C.H. Waddell, and her mother, Mayde Waddell Cox, and an infant son. She was a member of the Share-A-Book Club from 1945 until her death and was one of the founders of the Fort Bend County Library. She remained an active and generous supporter of the Fort Bend County Library as well as the Fort Bend County Museum where she served as a Docent. She was the owner of Fort Bend Telephone Company and had business interests in San Antonio, Texas, and a ranch in Leakey, Texas, which she enjoyed. She is survived by her children, Beth Butler Collier and husband, Phillip Collier, of Aransas Pass, Texas; Rhett Butler of Asuncion, Paraguay and William Cole Butler and wife, Renee Butler, of Richmond, Texas, and by her stepmother, Olive Waddell, of Rosenberg, Texas, and six grandchildren, namely: Elizabeth Vogelsang, David Vogelsang, Paul Vogelsang, Cole Butler, Charlie Butler and Brian Butler, and two step-grandchildren, Matthew Maresh and Nicholas Maresh. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Fort Bend Library Genealogical Section of Richmond, Texas, or the Fort Bend Museum in Richmond, Texas. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 1998 at the First United Methodist Church, 1127 Third Street, Rosenberg, TX. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Rosenberg. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday at Garmany & Carden Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors, Inc., 1201 Fourth St., Rosenberg, TX (281) 342-4671.
