David E. Bassett, age 67, of Paradise passed away at the Lancaster General Hospital on Friday, September 2, 2011 after a brief battle with cancer. David was born on April 17, 1944 in Danville, PA and is the son of Esther Forney Bassett of Northumberland, PA and the late Russell Bassett. David is survived by his wife Marie Kline Bassett, with whom he just celebrated 45 years of marriage on August 13th, his son Mark husband of Amber Warner Bassett of Bloomsburg, PA, sister Jane wife of Kenneth Herman of Danville, PA, niece Marcie wife of Peter Riebe of Scranton, PA.

David was a graduate of Bloomsburg University and Temple University. He was a business teacher for 36 years within the Pequea Valley School District where he served as the department head and the Senior Class Advisor. David was a member of Bellevue Presbyterian Church of Gap where he had served as an elder. He was also a member of the Christiana Masonic Lodge and the Lake Lehman Rod and Gun Club. David enjoyed spending time with his wife collecting and dealing antiques, attending auctions, traveling and of course watching his son Mark play and coach soccer. He would hardly ever miss a game because all three of them shared a love and passion for the game. David was an avid reader and gardener, who also spent time hunting and fishing in his free time.

Funeral service will take place from the Bellevue Presbyterian Church, 810 Newport Ave., Gap, PA on Tuesday, September 6th at 11 a.m., with Rev. William S. Davies, Jr. officiating. There will be a viewing time at the Bellevue Presbyterian Church on Monday evening 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service. There will also be a service at the Skyview Memorial Park Mausoleum, 108 Lafayette Avenue, Tamaqua, PA 18252 on Wednesday, September 7th at 11 a.m. with a calling time from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Bellevue Presbyterian Church, 810 Newport Avenue, Gap, PA 17527 or to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.
