Edwin lived in this area most of his life, having moved away for a short time to run a service station in Staplehurst. He was member of St. John Lutheran Church all of his life. Besides running the service station, Edwin farmed in the Crete area, worked for the Lancaster County ASCS Office and worked for Bentzinger's in Martell. Edwin was also a member of the Co-op and served his church by singing in the male chorus and the mixed chorus and by serving as the secretary-treasurer of the church for a time. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Anna Reiss; by his first wife, Irma; by his brothers, Louis Reiss, Henry Reiss, and Reinhold Reiss and by his sister Emma Gerbig.
He is survived by wife Lillian Reiss, by his brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Rose Reiss of Albuquerque, New Mexico; by his sons, Richard and Luella Reiss and Delbert and Irene Reiss; by his stepchildren, Beverly and Bob Hilliard, Ron and Carolyn Henning, Larry Henning, Norma and Franklin Halada, Jerry and Donna Henning, Art Jr. and Judy Henning, Charles and Rosalee Henning, Bruce and Jan Henning, Marjorie and Noyle Kramer and Donna and Daryl Michl; by his grandchildren, Michael Reiss, Robin Grotelueschen, Randy Reiss, David Reiss and Dianna Bohnart; by his great-grandchildren, Tanya Bush, Jesse Grotelueschen, Macy Grotelueschen, Kaitlain Reiss, Thomas Reiss, Colton Reiss, John Pulec, Mandy Nahorney and Lisa Mae Bohnart; by his great-great-grandchildren, Kimberly Bush, Kaitlain Bush and John Jay Nahorney; by 31 step-grandchildren, by 41 step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wed., May 3, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Kramer, Nebraska, with Pastor John Heckmann officiating. Pallbearers: Mike Reiss, David Reiss, Randy Reiss, DelRoy Reiss, Bruce Henning, Chuck Henning, Jerry Henning, and Kent Groteleuschen.
Edwin lived on this earth 92 years, 2 months and 11 days. Now, through faith in Christ Jesus, he lives for all eternity with God in heaven.
