Emmett Russell was born November 22, 1931 to Emmett Russell and Nellie Bailey Russell. A native of San Augustine, Texas and former resident of Houston, he had lived the past 25 years in Jasper.

The oldest of seven children, who all preceded him in death, Emmett was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marie McGraw; son, Wayne Davis; daughter, Lola Grace Peddy; and step-daughter, Sandra Woodell. Emmett died September 3, 2011 at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Bonnie Eddy Russell; step-daughter, Cindy Horton & husband Todd; step-son, Mark Woodell & wife Sheila, all of Jasper. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Mary Davis of Houston; son-in-law, Elbert Peddy; 15 grandchildren and 18 great- grandchildren.

A U.S. Army veteran and building contractor, Emmett was a deacon at Tanglewood Baptist Church and served on many committees. His love for God showed in the many things he did. He has been a Mission Service Corp volunteer since 1964, working in nursing homes and the Tanglewood Food Pantry. He loved to sing and enjoyed working as a member of Gideons International.

Funeral services will be 10am Tuesday September 6, 2011 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
