Famed German U-Boat Commander of World War II, credited with firing the 1st torpedo of World War II at the S.S. Athenia in September 1939, but his failure to scuttle his U-110 after a British Destroyer attack led to the capture of U-110's Enigma decoder machine perhaps the single most important intelligence find of the War. The Enigma decoders capture enabled the Allies to decypher all German military secrets perhaps speeding the end of the war. Lt. Kemp was killed while attempting to reset the scuttle charges prior to the British capture of the U-110 off the caost of Greenland.
