Beatrice Mattie Barker-May was the daughter of James Henry Barker and Ethel Euphina Lewis. Beatrice was the oldest of eight children and sister to, Joe Standefer Barker, Charles Lewis Barker, Henry Wallace Barker, Sam Wilson Barker, Arbutis Barker, Trula Belle Barker and Homer Burnett Barker. Beatrice grew up farming on her dad Henry's farm which is still in existence today. The barn is gone and the home is remodeled, but if you look close enough, you can still see it. On January 21 1927, she married Ernest Banjamin May of Marion County. Together they had 10 children, Jack Barker May, Dortha Kay May, Inez May, Ethel Lee May, Joe Henry May, Ervin Ernest May, Betty Joyce May, Elizabeth Ann May, Katherine Marie May and Howard May who died as an infant. Beatrice and Ernest lived in Dunlap, Tennessee until their passing. Beatrice died on November 29, 1988 in her home of Leukemia. Her daughter Betty Joyce May-Wright was her caretaker and was with her all the way to the end.
