Jochim S. Klahn, 92, a resident of Scott and Cedar counties for more than 71 years, passed away Monday, December 21, 1931, in his home in Durant. He had been ill for a long time.

The body was brought to Runge's Mortuary, Davenport, and will be returned to the family home Wednesday afternoon. Private funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 24, from the Klahn home with public services at 2:00 p.m., from the Durant Chapel in Durant. Burial will be in Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa.

Jochim Simon Klahn was born June 11, 1839, in Grube, Anisisma, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the son of Jochim and Elsabe (Buhmann) Klahn. He immigrated to the United States in 1860 and settled on a farm in Scott County, Iowa. He married Agnes (Hoepner) Scheel on March 12, 1874, in Davenport. Together they farmed in Scott and Cedar counties until 1908, when they retired and moved to Durant. Agnes preceded him in death on December 13, 1920. He was of Lutheran faith.

Surviving are three sons, Edward (Dorothea) Klahn and John (Lena) Klahn, both of Wilton and George Klahn of Durant; three daughters, Dora (Frank) Schneekloth and Clara (Charles) Harmsen, both of Bennett and Miss Ella Klahn at home; one step-daughter, Maggie (Claus) Peters of Gladbrook; one step-son, Henry Scheel of California; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two infant twin daughters, Amanda and Emilie Klahn, one son, Leonard Klahn, one daughter-in-law, Amanda Klahn and one grandson, Orville Klahn in infancy. His parents, two brothers, Johann Heinrich and Johann Mathias Klahn and eight sisters, Dorothea, Sophia, Johanna, Magdalena, Elsabe, Christina, Margarete and Catharina Klahn, all died earlier in Germany.
