Mary M. Haasl, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully left us on Friday, January 7, 2011, at the age of 97, to be with her beloved Lord and Savior.

Mary was born on May 12, 1913, in Madison Lake, Minn., the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Fasnacht.

She was one of six siblings and grew up on the family farm in Gilman. In the early 1930s, one of her first jobs was waiting tables at the Gerard Hotel in Ladysmith, where she met Donald F. Haasl. They were married on June 2, 1936, and were married for over 70 years, when Don passed away on February 18, 2010.

Family and faith were the most important in Mary's life. She was a long-time resident of Ladysmith and a faithful member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. She was a member of the Order of Secular Servants of Mary and the Catholic Women Order of the Forester.

Mary was a woman of kindness and generosity, and she will be remembered for her gentle spirit. She was grateful for the love and kindness expressed to her by the staff of the Ladysmith Nursing Home these past several years.

She found spiritual music uplifting and the poetry of Helen Steiner Rice inspirational.

In her earlier years, she enjoyed sewing, baking cookies, playing cards, watching the birds and feeding any stray cat that wandered into her yard.

Mary was extremely proud of the accomplishments of her family and always looked forward to the times when her family could be together. Her family will remember her with great love and affection and their love-filled times when she would listen and show how she cared.

Her memory will be cherished by her three children Bill (Marie) of Oshkosh, Jim (Sandy) of Hutchinson, Minn., and Donna (Jake) Boehmer of Oconto; and her nine grandchildren, Paul Haasl (Pam), Laura Wilmot (Ron), Chris Sickmann, Brian Haasl (Jackie), Pam Lanska (Josh), Karen Stewart, Todd Boehmer (Annette), Heidi Horejs (Brian), and Mark Boehmer (Tara).

She is further survived by 17 great-grandchildren a large and loving family of nieces and nephews; and her special friend Myrtle Perchynski of Nashville, Tenn.

Besides her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her two brothers Leo and Bernard; and her three sisters Lucy Amble, LaVerne Wallner and Ida Schrandt.

According to Mary's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Mass of Christian Burial Celebration of her life was held on Monday, Jan. 10, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with Fr. Shaji Pazhukkathara, Deacons Doug Sorenson and Richard Leonhard officiating.

A visitation with Mary's family was held at the church until the time of the mass. Private internment will be at Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been established in the name of Donald F. Haasl and Mary M. Haasl for the students of Our Lady of Sorrows School.
