He was born and reared in Pattonsburg, Daviess County, MO, and he is buried there, alongside his first wife, Susanah (Cunningham) Auldridge, who died in 1907. He married Susanah in Daviess County on 10 Jan 1887. Their only child, Hattie Reteau Auldridge, married John Daniel Morris, 21 Jan 1909. George Sterling gave his consent for this marriage, as Hattie was only 17 years old.
