William Hampton, the 12 year-old-son of Mr and Mrs John E Hampton of Haywood Street, met an untimely death Tuesday evening by being accidentally shot and killed by a playmate. The little fellow had gone to spend the night at the home of Mrs. Wainscot and was playing with her three sons. The boys were "playing theater," when the oldest boy of the party drew a revolver which he had found about the house and thought was not loaded, and snapped the weapon in the face of young Hampton...Death was almost instantaneous. ... The funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the residence. Young Hampton was a member of French Broad Baptist Sunday school and Superintendent George W Tilson requests members of the school to attend the funeral.
