In 1935, Margaret married Thomas Reed Turner, Doctor of Divinity, who was the pastor of her church. He was a widower with one son, Brenton Turner, who (as of 1940) was also a teacher in Quincy. Dr. Turner died 8 Jan 1937 and Margaret returned to North Quincy High, where she was still teaching in 1940. After she retired, she began to travel to Florida for the winter, and very late in life lived there permanently. She was very close to her brother George V. Shirley's children.
