Historian. Author. Farmer. Ralph Ege wrote "Pioneers of Old Hopewell; With Sketches of Her Revolutionary Heroes." His research was originally published as a series of thirty-three genealogical articles which appeared in the newspaper "The Hopewell Herald" from 1901 to Ege's death in 1905. Those articles were then combined with another fifteen manuscripts which had not yet appeared in the newspaper to create the book which was published posthumously in 1908. In addition to his roles as Hopewell historian and farmer, Ege served forty years as superintendent of the Sabbath School. He was also a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church. Other positions Ege held in the community included president of the Mercer County Board of Agriculture, president of the State Horticultural Society, and president of the Mercer County Fair Association.
