John Walter Whitaker, 75, of the Squib community in Pulaski County, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Somerset City Hospital.

Born Nov. 11, 1900, in Laurel County, he was the son of Henry L. and Clementine Warren Whitaker, both of whom preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Ada Elizabeth Whitaker, whom he married Dec. 31, 1918; eight children, Henry M. Whitaker, Pisgah, Ohio, John Whitaker, Jr., Springdale, Ohio, Jerry Lewis Whitaker, Long Beach, Calif., Tressia Bryant, Westchester, Ohio, Maxine Garrett, College Hill, Ohio, Geraldine Akers, Mt. Healthy, Ohio, Judy Vandergriff, Batavia, Ohio, and Wilma Jean Cable, Arlington Heights, Ohio; two sisters, Zella Farmer Detherage, Lockland, Ohio, and Stella Woodall of the Acorn community in Pulaski County; 23 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was a maintenance man for the E.I. Dupont Company, Cincinnati, Ohio, and a member of the Chimney Rock Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday Dec. 5, at Morris and Hislope Funeral Home with Rev. Ollie Parkey and Rev. Lester Finley officiating.

Burial will be in Whitaker Cemetery.

Friends may call at Morris and Hislope Funeral Home after 5 p.m.
