Elijah Adams obituary, Waynesburg Republican, Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, 11 August 1885. Transcribed by Candice Buchanan.

"Mr. Elijah Adams died at his house in Franklin township, Thursday morning Aug. 6th, 1885; of typhoid pneumonia; aged 79 years.

The death of Mr. Adams was quite sudden and proved a severe shock to his friends, he having been on our streets the Saturday previous apparently in good health.

Deceased had for many years filled the office of Steward of the County Home, in which capacity he was serving at the time of his death. He was also elected Sheriff of Greene county in the year 1852.

He was a man who always bore the highest respect of his fellow men and had many friends. In his public life he served with efficiency and credit.

Mr. Adams was a brother of Dawson Adams, Esq., of Waynesburg and belonged to one of the oldest and best known families in the community, being a son of Robert Adams who emigrated to this place from Maryland about the year 1800.

He had been twice married and a wife and six children survive him. The latter are as follows: Mrs. Rhoda Egy, of Texas; Van Buren and Robert Adams of Kansas; Elijah Adams, Jr., of Pittsburgh; and Misses Anna and Martha Adams, who are at home.

The funeral took place on Sunday."
