U.S. Congressman. He engaged in milling pursuits and was supervisor for Ulysses, New York, (1812, 14-15, 18, 21, 26). In addition, he was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1816, 24) and Sheriff of Tompkins County, (1819-21). In 1833, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-third Congress, serving until 1835. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was appointed judge of the Tompkins County Court and resumed the milling business. He died at age 82 while on a visit to Michigan. Congressman Silas Halsey was his father and Congressman Jehiel Howell Halsey, was his brother.
