Simeon Smedley was born in Washington county, Indiana, March 13, 1852. He married in March 1871 to Miss Ellen Harmon. To this union was born three daughters, of which but one, Mrs. Joe Rendals, survive him, the wife and mother having died about 1880. He was married again 1882 to Mrs. W. O. Hooker. To this union was born two sons, and two daughters, all of whom are living. He also leaves four brothers and one sister, all are living in this vicinity.
He united with the Church of Christ in Indiana, in early manhood and came to Kansas in an early day and secured a homestead, and through careful management and industry was very prosperous. He was well known throughout the community and a large number of people gathered at the home where the funeral service was conducted by Burhl Gilpin, after which the body was laid to rest in Olive Branch cemetery.
