Mr. Alvin Ellis Harrell, 79, of 344 Cape Fear Blvd., Wilmington, died Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Harrell was born in Edgecombe County, the son of the late Jodie Albert and Sudie Mae Ellis Harrell. He was a member of the Long Leaf Baptist Church, had coached Babe Ruth baseball in Wilmington and was retired from Wilmington Electric Company.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Simpson Harrell of the home; a daughter, Dr. Gloria Harrell-Cook and her husband, Lawrence, of Westernport, MD; and a son, Reverend Joey Harrell and wife Barbarann of Bunn Level, NC; a brother, Sammy Harrell of Macclesfield, NC; five grandchildren, Aaron and Seth Harrell, Lauren Cook and Leanna and Kimberlea Harrell.

Memorial services will be held tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Long Leaf Baptist Church by the Reverend Eugene Ridley. The family will receive friends following the service.

A second memorial service for Mr. Harrell's extended family will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at the Macclesfield Presbyterian Church in Macclesfield, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Long Leaf Baptist Church, 317 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC 28401 or to the Macclesfield Presbyterian Church, 2nd Street, Macclesfield, NC 27852.
