U.S. Congressman. He studied medicine in Barrington, Massachusetts, was licensed as a physician and practiced medicine in Tioga County, New York. He was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1815-19, 23, 26), first judge of the Tioga County Court, (1818-23), served in the New York State Senate, (1819-22), New York State Treasurer (1825-28) and supervisor of Nichols, New York, in 1830. In 1831, he was elected as an Anti-Masonic candidate to the Twenty-second Congress, serving until 1833. After leaving office, he continued the practice of medicine and engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death at age 80.
