Marlena June Dean, 46, of Keokuk, IA, died August 20, 2011 at her home in Keokuk, IA.

She was born August 16, 1965 in Keosauqua, IA the daughter of Edward Dale and Darlene Scearcy Dean. She was married to Brad Ward Smith. He survives.

Other survivors include, her son Edward Smith of Keokuk, her mother, Darlene Dean of Luray, MO, two sisters, Kristy Dean of Alaska and Lila Claring of Luray, MO, sister-in-law, Teresa Steele and her husband Kurt of Keokuk, brother in law, Mike Smith of Montrose, IA, mother-in-law, Kay Smith of Keokuk, IA, three foster children, Cody Roberts of Keokuk, Mindy Roberts of Wayland, MO, and Stephen Caviness of Iowa along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Edward Dean, a brother, Edward Dean, Jr., father-in-law, Doyle Smith and her grandparents.

Marlena graduated from Wyaconda High School with the Class of 1983.

She recently worked at Pyramid Home Health Care in Kirksville, MO. She also worked at Bridgeway in Keokuk for three years and at Charleston Place as a nurse's aide.

Marlena enjoyed fishing, arrowhead hunting and geode hunting. She loved taking care of people and always liked to be on the go.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, August 24th at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Tom Lemon officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Combs Cemetery, Luray, MO.

The Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA was in charge of arrangements.
