Ruth McGee, 97, of Spencer, the grandmother of a Monticello resident, died on Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Owen Valley Healthcare Center.

She was born in Owen County on Oct. 25, 1903, to Homer and Etta Hedrick Chambers. She married Clarence McGee. He died in June 1965.

She was a cook in Owen County schools.

She played the organ at Spencer Baptist Church for many years.

She was a member of Spencer Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, David Culross; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Ray Chambers, Ross Chambers and Clarence Chambers; and one sister, Naomi Sproles.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at West and Parrish and Pedigo Funeral Home, Spencer. Services will follow on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Shannon Benham officiating.

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Spencer.

Memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
