Ida May Gilbert, age 84, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, in Cartersville. Ida was born Feb.18, 1927, in the Manyunk section of Philadelphia, to the late David S. and Elsa M. Bennett (Schuler). Ida graduated from Roxborough High in 1945 and started working as a bookkeeper/clerk for Metropolitan Life in Philadelphia before marrying Howard North Gilbert and moving to Warwick, R.I. and starting a family. Ida and Howard subsequently lived in Warminster, Pa.; Roxborough, Pa.; Englewood, Fla.; Quarryville, Pa.; and Cartersville.

Ida and Howard were married for 56 years, and Howard died Aug.14, 2011. Ida is survived by her three children, Kenneth (Catherine) Gilbert of Columbus, Ohio; Janet (John) Seebeck of Camp Hill, Penn.; and Robert (Sandy) Gilbert of Cumming; and two grandchildren. Ida was the sister of Ruth Shannon of Stone Mountain and the late Esther McMullen, Florence Carmody, and David Bennett.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service for both Ida and Howard Gilbert at Rowland Springs Baptist Church, 79 Rowland Springs Road, Cartersville at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, to be followed by refreshments at the community center where Ida and Howard lived, the Cove Apartments, 90 Liberty Square Drive NE, Cartersville. An additional memorial service, to be held in Philadelphia, is being planned for September to be coordinated by Ida and Howard's children.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Rowland Springs Baptist Church or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
