1856—-Christopher C. Briles—1924
Christopher Columbus Briles passed away at the family home on West Mechanic Street in Harrisonville, Saturday morning, January 19, 1924, at 3:20 0'clock. His wife and several of the children were by his side when the end came. He was conscious of the encroaching enemy, and talked freely to those about him of the joy and peace that he experienced in his entrance upon the Great Adventure. For several weeks past it was generally known throughout the community that his condition was exceedingly serious. He, himself, realized that it was a fatal grip the disease had upon him. Now he rests from his sufferings and his spirit dwells with the Blest.

The subject of our sketch was born on a Cass county farm July 4, 1856. His birthplace was a mile and a half south of Harrisonville. His parents were John B. and Annis Briles. When 27 years of age he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Elizabeth Wills of Adrain county. The wedding occurred June 16, 1883, in Harrisonville, the ceremony being pronounced by the late Rev. A. H. Deane at his residence on West Wall Street.

Notes
1. As of this writing, his death certificate is improperly indexed under the last name of "Bules."

2. Both his death certificate and his obituary indicate that his birth year was 1856. His headstone, however, indicates a birth year of 1857. And his 1860 census record, enumerated on August 30, 1860, indicates that he was three years old on that date. It seems likely, then that 1857 is the correct year and in the absence of further information will be used on this headstone.
