John was son of Samuel Martin and Elizabeth Andrews. John is listed among the pioneer residents of Greene County, Missouri. He was on an early tax list for Springfield being listed with his father and brothers. He must have moved to the Linden area a short time later where he married Catherine Friend. Catherine's family had lived at Kenton (now Linden) since before her father founded the town. John married Catherine Friend 9 Jan 1834. They were parents of 10 children. After Catherine passed away, John married Elizabeth Gilden about 1862 and they were parents of 5 children. John died between the 14th of August and the 8th of December in 1873 because his will was written on the earlier date and probated on the latter date. After his death, Elizabeth married William Bradford Tucker and they moved to Springfield.

I disagree with his father's being listed with a middle name as none ever appeared in records.
